THE HURDY GURDY FOLK MUSIC CLUB’S
30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
KIM & REGGIE HARRIS and MAGPIE present:
SEASON OF LIGHT
With special guests: The Hurdy Gurdy All-Stars
$25 ($22 members)

The Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club celebrates the 30th anniversary of the club’s first concert with a special evening of music and surprises. To help us celebrate our anniversary and this special time of year, Kim & Reggie Harris and Magpie will join together to present a program called “Season of Light”.

From Solstice to Chanukah to Christmas to Kwanzaa, many cultures and peoples celebrate as the days grow short in the Northern Hemisphere. These gatherings are a reminder of the changing season, of hope and freedom, of new life and new beginnings and of the basic principles for living together.  Combining their many talents, Kim and Reggie Harris and Magpie will perform music and tell stories from traditions that mark "The Season of Light", celebrating the many common themes of these festivals: the changing seasons, respect for nature, the quest for freedom, kindness to others, unity, cooperation, purpose and creativity.

Kim and Reggie Harris have developed a national reputation touring since the seventies.  From adult-contemporary music to traditional and classic folk songs, they are an experience in versatility.  Songs of romance,  freedom and life's precious moments come alive in the hands of these gifted performers.

“Kim and Reggie inspire a sense of joy and exhilaration that lifts the soul… makes you want to sing and celebrate your neighbor!! Music that makes you come alive!”
-Philadelphia Daily News

Magpie (Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner) have also developed a national reputation since they began touring during the folk revival of the seventies.  They combine their powerful voices with strong instrumentals--guitars, mandolin, harmonica, dulcimer, concertina, drum, and Native American flute--in a repertoire that includes blues, folk, swing, country, contemporary and original songs.  Magpie's music is a rainbow of styles and themes.

"Greg and Terry can show us all what a wonderful thing it can be for two voices to harmonize together. How lucky I am to have lived to see and hear more links in the chain."
-- Pete Seeger

These two exciting duos combine their unique styles to create a performances that is a rare musical experience:  moving, thought provoking, uplifting, life-affirming and highly entertaining.  Hearing these renowned folk/contemporary duos together is like listening to the vocal dynamics of a choir combined with the beauty and passion of a ballad.  They are a new experience in four part harmony that must be heard to be believed.

In honor of the 30th anniversary of the first concert presented by the Hurdy Gurdy, the evening will be kicked off by a celebratory performance featuring “all-star” lineup of local musicians and artists who have been connected with the Hurdy Gurdy through our first 3 decades.  Join us for the fun & surprises, plus a slice of birthday cake and a toast to the next 30 years!
