As a special treat, the Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club will hold our first ever “Movie Night” at the Fair Lawn Community Center on Saturday April 13 at 8pm. The event will be FREE to Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club members (please R.S.V.P. by e-mail to info@hurdygurdyfolk.org or call (201) 384-1325) and non-members are invited to attend for $10.00 per ticket.

The Hurdy Gurdy is proud to present a special screening of “For The Love of the Music: The Club 47 Folk Revival”, a documentary exploring the rich history of Club 47, the iconic Cambridge, Massachusetts folk music mecca from 1958-1968. Narrated by Peter Coyote, it explores the influence the Club had on a unique group of folk musicians, from the evolution of the 60s folk revival to the singer-songwriter era.

Featured are interviews with Joan Baez, Taj Mahal, Judy Collins, Tom Rush, Maria Muldaur, Geoff Muldaur, Jim Kweskin, Jackie Washington, Jim Rooney, Peter Rowan and many more. The film features previously unreleased audio recordings and photographs of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Eric Von Schmidt and new performances from the still-performing stars of Club 47 with today's emerging folk performers, as the folk process continues.

For the Love of the Music has been awarded Best Regional Documentary at Providence's 2012 SENEfest, Best Indie Spec Documentary at the Boston International Film Festival and Runner Up for Best Documentary Feature (Journalism or Historical) at the Woods Hole Film Festival.

Following the screening, free coffee and cookies will be available in the lobby
and we will hold a special “hootenanny”,
re-creating the classic coffeehouse experience of the 1960’s!

ABOUT THE HURDY GURDY

The Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club is a longstanding organization with over 25 years of cultural presentation in NJ. Founded in 1981 in Fair Lawn New Jersey, the Hurdy Gurdy moved to Paramus, New Jersey where we presented monthly concerts for the enjoyment of audiences in Bergen County. In 2007 we returned "home" to Fair Lawn and the new Fair Lawn Community Center.
The organization is run by volunteers who are motivated by a love of ACOUSTIC folk music . Our concerts feature some of the most recognized nationally and internationally known artists in the genre. The Hurdy Gurdy has offered a "who's who" in the world of folk music.

Artists who have graced the stages of the Hurdy Gurdy include David Bromberg, Doc Watson, Tommy Makem, Pete Seeger, The Highwaymen, Christine Lavin, Vance Gilbert, the Roches, John Gorka, Eric Bogle, Dougie McLean and many others. In addition to names that are recognizable to the folk world, the Hurdy Gurdy has also given opportunities to dozens of local and "undiscovered" artists who have gone on to careers in the business.

With the borough of Fair Lawn as our co-sponsor, we present concerts at the beautiful Fair Lawn Community Center; offering great entertainment at reasonable prices for Fair Lawn residents and acoustic music fans in the region. Our concerts are held in the Community Center's 171 seat auditorium - comfortable seating, great acoustics and lighting, and a close stage. A perfect setting for great shows - right in the neighborhood!

The Fair Lawn Community Center is located at 10-10 20th Street, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410

From New York City:George Washington Bridge to Route 4 West. Continue to Route 208 North. Exit at Fair Lawn Avenue East. Make a right onto 20th Street and follow to the end of the road.

From South or North:Route 287 North or South to Route 208 South. Exit at Fair Lawn Avenue. Continue straight through light at end of ramp onto Orchard Street. Make a left onto Berdan Avenue and continue to end. Make a right onto 20th Street.

From West: Route 80 East to Route 20 North. Exit at Fair Lawn Avenue. Make a right onto Orchard Street. Make a left onto Berdan Avenue and continue to end. Make a right onto 20th Street.
